Wood Shop Partners with Montgomery Parks for Wood Exchange

Earlier this year, the Wood Shop at Leisure World teamed up with Montgomery Parks for a unique wood exchange program. This partnership provides resident woodworkers with lumber from trees removed from local parks, allowing them to craft a variety of items for sale at Brookside Gardens’ gift shop. The proceeds support the gardens, while the woodworkers get to keep a portion of the wood for personal projects.
Location: Clubhouse I
Open weekdays 9A-3 PM.
Saturdays 9-12 PM.
Membership is open to all Leisure World residents -- all skill levels

Novice Woodworker’s Creation Inspired by Epic Poem

Raj Sahni joined the Wood Shop a year and a half ago with no woodworking experience, eager to learn. Now, he has crafted an incredible piece depicting a dramatic moment from the Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic. The intricate sculpture showcases Arjuna, a legendary archer, in a chariot driven by Lord Krishna, surrounded by finely detailed horses and carvings. This masterpiece, carved in basswood, is set to be displayed in the Clubhouse I lobby. Sahni hopes it will attract a donor to support local clubs.
